A useful first step

Understand your pet’s
age and life stage.

A kitten, a senior dog and an older rabbit need different kinds of care. Start with a simple age estimate to understand their stage of life.

An educational starting point, not a diagnosis. Your pet’s individual health and your veterinarian’s advice come first.

How this estimate is calculated

Life stages follow the 2021 AAHA/AAFP feline guidelines, RWAF size bands for rabbits, the RVC pet hamster study, AAV geriatric ages for birds, and standard equine stages. The dog figure uses the UC San Diego epigenetic formula. These are estimates for planning care, not a diagnosis.

Built around the species

A dog’s age calculation is different from a rabbit’s life stage. Each tool uses an approach suited to the animal and the question.

The method is part of the answer

Tools identify published guidance, research or clearly labelled assumptions, so you can understand the result.

Care comes before a calculation

Results support everyday planning. Symptoms, health concerns and treatment decisions belong with a qualified veterinarian.

Before you begin

Pet calculator questions, answered

Know what to expect from your result.

Are the calculators free?

Yes. The calculators are free to use, and you do not need to create an account to get a result.

Can one age formula work for every pet?

No. Different species grow and age differently. Where a useful human-age comparison exists, the tool explains it. Other calculators focus on chronological age, life stage and care context.

How should I use a feeding or weight estimate?

Use it as a starting point alongside your pet’s body condition, weight trend, food label and any veterinary guidance. Individual needs can vary, so a calculator should not be the only basis for changing a care plan.

Do these tools replace veterinary advice?

No. These tools are for education and everyday planning. If your pet has symptoms, unexpected weight changes or other health concerns, contact a qualified veterinarian.
